Howard Webb: From Rotheram to Real Madrid!

On 30th April, Howard Webb flew to Spain to officiate the Champions League Semi Final clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the world renowned Bernabeu stadium. He later faced the wrath of Jose Mourinho whose Real Madrid “Galacticos” team were knocked out the biggest competition in football in front of 70,000 of their own fans!
Away from the spotlight of the worlds sport media Howard Webb’s of the field life is in complete contrast to his very public and unforgiving role as a top class referee. A few weeks before flying to Madrid for example he was spotted shopping in his local branch of Wynsors World of Shoes in Thurcroft! Born and bred in Rotherham, he leads a relatively normal life with his wife and three children. Webb, who was awarded an MBE for his services to football, is also a Police Sergeant. In 2010 he chose to reduce his hours to focus on his role as one of the world’s top referees. In fact he visited the Wynsors store to purchase a pair of boots appropriate for his Police Work.

We had over 3,000 individual entries ranging from 2 year old to 18 year old so a very varied range of designs! The image below shows just a few of the entries we have had to sift through to pick the very best designs. It has to be said that the quality of some of the designs has been exceptional, making it very difficult to pick a winner.

After hours of deliberation we managed to reach a decision and awarded first prize to Jack Douglas, 12, from Cardinal Hume School in Gateshead whose bag will now be put into production and sold in our stores.
